Donald "dons" his newly registered trademark for "MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN"

Republican presidential candidate and real estate mogul Donald Trump now has a trademark registration for the mark “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN” in International Classes 35 and 36. More specifically, as of July 14, 2015, Trump has the exclusive right to use that phrase nationwide in connection with “political action committee services, namely, promoting public awareness of political issues” and “fundraising in the field of politics.” Trump was seen last week in Laredo, Texas, donning a white baseball hat featuring his new proprietary slogan.

Trump’s trademark application was filed back in 2012, suggesting that he has been considering a possible political campaign for some time now. The application was filed on an intent-to-use basis, but Trump later filed a Statement of Use, showing use of the mark on Class 35 and Class 36 services on April 12, 2015, and May 22, 2015, respectively. Still, it appears that Ronald Reagan began using this mark much earlier than Trump, during Reagan’s own presidential campaign in the late 1970’s.

Trump has reportedly criticized other Republican candidates, such as Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and Texas Senator Ted Cruz, for having used Trump’s mark in their own political campaigns.
