Erskine selected for inclusion into NBL Top 40 Under 40 Black Lawyers in Florida

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – McDonald Hopkins attorney Carla Erskine has been selected for inclusion into The National Black Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 Black Lawyers in Florida.

“I am always humbled when I receive any kind of recognition, but being selected for inclusion in the NBL’s Top 40 Under 40 is particularly special to me,” said Erskine, who is an associate in the Business Law Department and based in the firm’s West Palm Beach office. “You never know who is paying attention, and I don’t do things to get awards. To be recognized by my community, especially in these times, means a great deal to me. I have always tried to do more and be an advocate for the black community, so when others in the profession recognize that and sees how it adds value, it means even more.”

The NBL is a professional honorary organization established to promote the nation’s top black attorneys and to enhance the professional development of its members. Selection for inclusion in the Top 40 Under 40 is an honor given to a select group of lawyers who have demonstrated superior skills in their fields of law or who have excelled in areas promoting diversity. Membership is by invitation only, based on a multi-phase process, which includes peer nominations combined with third-party research. Since joining McDonald Hopkins in August 2018, Erskine’s practice has focused on land use and zoning, real estate, commercial finance and general business counseling. She supports clients in obtaining zoning, rezoning, site plan, variances, master planning and plat and approvals. She handles residential real estate closings, as well as prepares and negotiates commercial and residential leases. Erskine also provides legal services to Lenders and Borrowers in financing transactions, including conventional commercial mortgage loans and construction loans – properties at the centers of these transactions include residential developments, multifamily housing and mixed-use facilities.

Erskine’s commitment to community service includes promoting the personal and professional development of black legal professionals as the former secretary of the F. Malcom Cunningham Bar Association and recruiting, training and promoting young progressive leaders as the former co-director of the New Leaders Council Palm Beach.  In the summer of 2019, Erskine was accepted into the 2019-20 Leadership Palm Beach County Engage program – an opportunity she used to continue to build strong professional relationships with like-minded leaders in the community and to help children in the community find the drive to push through roadblocks and believe they can achieve their most ambitious goals. In 2019, she was also recognized by Legacy South Florida Magazine as one of the “40 under 40: Black Leaders of Today and Tomorrow” honorees in South Florida.
