Overview

Timothy, a member of McDonald Hopkins’ Business Department and Real Estate Practice Group, advises real estate developers, owners, investors, and lenders on structuring and executing complex commercial real estate and financing transactions. With extensive experience spanning the real estate and corporate lifecycle, he provides a practical and business-oriented approach to helping clients navigate acquisitions, joint ventures, capital raises, and secured lending matters.

Before joining McDonald Hopkins, Timothy served for nearly a decade as General Counsel to a national, vertically integrated real estate development firm specializing in mixed-use and multifamily assets. In this role, he oversaw legal strategy across every phase of the development process, from acquisition and entitlement through construction, lease-up, and stabilization. He also led the commercial transactions team through over $850 million in debt and equity financing.

Timothy’s experience encompasses a wide range of matters, including operating agreements, purchase and sale contracts, loan financing documents, private placements, and commercial leases. He is well-versed in coordinating transactions involving complex capital stacks, multi-party joint ventures, and regulatory considerations across jurisdictions.

Timothy is renowned for building strong, long-term client relationships and tailoring his advice to align with each client’s business objectives, leverage, and risk tolerance.

He earned a J.D. from the Charleston School of Law and a B.S. from Clemson University.

Representative Cases & Matters

  • Represented developer-client in the sale of commercial, office, mixed-use and multifamily portfolios with a combined total sales price of over $150 million.
  • Represented the sponsor of two separate multi-family acquisitions totaling $112 million utilizing proceeds from both traditional bank loans in addition to proceeds from ground lease financing.
  • Represented the owner on a $63 million mixed-use and multifamily portfolio sale, consisting of six stand-alone properties in Chicago.
  • Represented developer-client with negotiations and entry into multiple joint venture agreements with total capital contributions over $200 million, including the closing of a joint venture with a publicly traded real estate company.
  • Represented client in two separate eminent domain actions with the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). Successfully negotiated and obtained payments from the CTA in excess of $2 million.
