Overview
Walter is an Associate in McDonald Hopkins’ Litigation Department and its national Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Group. His practice focuses on incident response, regulatory defense, and privacy litigation.
Prior to joining McDonald Hopkins, Walter litigated and defended cybersecurity matters involving a range of complex issues, including insurance coverage disputes, recovery actions, and third-party lawsuits in federal and state courts throughout the United States, including data breach class action lawsuits. He also advised organizations and Fortune 500 companies across a variety of industries on high-stakes cybersecurity incidents and coverage matters, including ransomware attacks, business email compromises, and third-party data breaches.
In addition, he previously defended academic healthcare institutions in high-exposure litigation involving complex factual and legal issues, and litigated general liability claims.
During law school, Walter served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Sue E. Myerscough of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois and was a teaching assistant for legal writing classes.
He received a J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law, where he was a member and Admissions Editor for the Illinois Law Review. During his undergraduate studies, he earned a B.A. from the University of Illinois at Springfield in Political Science and Communication and was a member of the University of Illinois Springfield baseball team.
