Jeff McClain is expected to be sworn in as the next Ohio Tax Commissioner on Jan. 14, 2019, when Mike DeWine officially takes office as governor of Ohio. McClain most recently served as the Director of Tax & Economic Policy for the Ohio Chamber of Commerce. He previously served for eight years in the Ohio House of Representatives as representative from the 87th district including the Upper Sandusky area. Before his time in the General Assembly, McClain served for 26 years as the Wyandot County Auditor. McClain brings extensive experience with the enactment and administration of Ohio taxes to the Tax Department.

The Ohio Chamber of Commerce lauded McClain’s nomination in a press release. On behalf of the Chamber, Vice President Keith Lake stated that “We congratulate Gov.-elect DeWine on his selection of Jeff as tax commissioner. While here at the Ohio Chamber, Jeff worked every day to ensure Ohio has a competitive, business-friendly tax climate. We have no doubt he’ll now be a great champion for all Ohio taxpayers as he assumes responsibility for administering this important agency and overseeing the collection of Ohio’s various taxes.”
