McDonald Hopkins is proud to announce the addition of Timothy Cwick as a Member in the firm’s Business Department and Real Estate Practice Group. Tim brings more than 12 years of experience advising real estate developers, owners, investors, and lenders on sophisticated commercial real estate and financing transactions.

He was drawn to McDonald Hopkins for its collaborative culture and strong platform for growth. “It became clear within the first five minutes of meeting with the team that this is a firm built on mutual support and respect,” he said. “Every interaction I’ve had since has only reinforced that initial impression.”

Tim offers a business-oriented, practical approach to navigating all phases of the real estate and corporate lifecycle. His work spans acquisitions, joint ventures, capital raises, and secured lending matters, with deep experience in structuring transactions involving complex capital stacks, multi-party joint ventures, and regulatory considerations across jurisdictions.

Prior to joining McDonald Hopkins, he served for nearly a decade as General Counsel to a national, vertically integrated real estate development firm specializing in mixed-use and multifamily assets. In that role, he led legal strategy across the entire development process and directed the commercial transactions team through more than $850 million in debt and equity financing.

Tim’s legal practice covers operating agreements, purchase and sale contracts, loan documents, private placements, and commercial leases. He is widely respected for building long-standing, collaborative relationships with his clients and tailoring his advice to align with each client’s goals, leverage, and risk tolerance.

“What I enjoy most about real estate is that every transaction is unique, each with its own challenges and nuances,” he said. “Leading a deal from term sheet to closing is incredibly rewarding, and I pride myself on being a true partner to my clients throughout that journey.”

Jason Smith, the Chair of McDonald Hopkins’ Real Estate practice group, said Tim is a great addition to the team.

“Tim brings a ton of real-world experience from both the legal and business sides of real estate, and he knows how to get deals done in a practical, straightforward way. Our clients will benefit from his insight, and he’s already a great fit with our team’s collaborative approach,” Jason said.

Tim earned his J.D. from the Charleston School of Law and his B.S. from Clemson University.
