Overview
Alec is a Member in the firm’s commercial real estate group whose practice focuses on complex real estate transactions and financing structures, with a particular emphasis on sale-leasebacks and financing-driven real estate deals. Alec represents clients in the acquisition, disposition, leasing, and financing of commercial real estate nationally and across asset classes, including office, industrial, retail, universities, healthcare, hospitality, and mixed-use properties. His experience spans traditional purchases and sales, development and redevelopment projects, secured lending, joint ventures, corporate real estate matters, and portfolio-level transactions.
In addition to his general real estate practice, Alec has developed a focused specialization advising clients on the risks, rewards, and capital-structure implications of sale-leasebacks and similar financing-heavy real estate transactions. Alec is valued for helping clients identify risks that are not apparent from pricing alone and for providing practical guidance that aligns the legal structure of transactions with the overall business objectives of the parties.
He earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 2015. He received a B.S., magna cum laude, from Michigan State University in 2012.

- Represented a private equity sponsor in the acquisition of a large commercial printing business, in which a sale-leaseback of manufacturing and warehousing facilities in Minnesota provided $71 million of acquisition financing from a national institutional real estate investment firm.
- Represented a private equity sponsor in the acquisition of a large furniture manufacturer, where a sale-leaseback of manufacturing and distribution facilities in North Carolina contributed $70 million to the acquisition capital stack as a primary source of acquisition financing with a national institutional real estate investment firm.
- Represented a private equity sponsor in the acquisition of an original equipment manufacturer, involving a sale-leaseback of manufacturing facilities in Indiana and Michigan to support a leveraged, multi-state acquisition structure.
- Represented a large privately held corporation in the $47 million sale-leaseback of its corporate headquarters in Ohio, structured as a financing transaction to monetize owned real estate while maintaining operational control.
- Represented a closely held corporation in the $37 million sale-leaseback of corporate-owned office and warehouse facilities in California with a national institutional real estate investment firm.
- Represented a private equity sponsor in the strategic restructuring and negotiated exit of a distressed operating facility in Oregon subject to a long-term net lease with an institutional net-lease REIT landlord, including analysis of accelerated rent exposure, operational shutdown alternatives, and resolution strategies.
- Represented real estate investors in connection with the acquisition and leaseback of corporate-owned industrial and office facilities pursuant to long-term net-lease structures.
- Represented a family office and real estate investor group in the acquisition and leaseback of corporate-owned manufacturing, office, and warehousing facilities in Ohio structured as long-term net-lease investments.
- Represented a national real estate developer in the $78,000,000 acquisition and CMBS financing of a mixed-use property in South Florida.
