Overview
Jared is Counsel in McDonald Hopkins’ Litigation Department and a member of the firm’s national Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Group. He represents businesses in data privacy and cybersecurity litigation, including class actions, mass arbitrations and individual claims in state and federal courts across the country.
His experience includes litigation arising from data breaches and cybersecurity incidents. He also has extensive experience with claims involving pixels, cookies, session-replay software and other website tracking and advertising technologies, including alleged violations of federal and state wiretapping statutes, the Video Privacy Protection Act, state privacy and consumer protection laws, and related common-law theories. His broader practice includes litigation under the Fair Credit Reporting Act and Telephone Consumer Protection Act, as well as wire-fraud disputes, breach-of-contract claims, business torts and other complex commercial matters.
He manages matters through all stages of litigation, including early case assessment, discovery, depositions, dispositive motions, trial preparation, mediation and settlement. Drawing on his understanding of the legal and technical issues underlying privacy claims, he translates complex issues into clear, practical strategies tailored to each client’s needs and objectives.
In addition to his litigation practice, Jared advises companies across a variety of industries on website privacy, incident response and litigation-risk mitigation. His work includes evaluating the deployment and configuration of third-party tracking technologies, responding to threatened privacy claims and helping clients implement practical measures designed to reduce regulatory and litigation risk.
Before joining McDonald Hopkins, Jared worked for the Indiana Supreme Court, providing technical guidance and training to law enforcement personnel, courts, and clerks using Indiana’s statewide court information technology systems. He earned his J.D. from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law and his B.A. in political science and legal studies, with a minor in intelligence and homeland security, from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina.
